All around the camping site: the Isábena valley

If you spend your holidays at the camping site you will be in the middle of the community of Isábena in the Aragonese Pyrenees. Through this area flows the river that has the same name. Different villages belong to the community, like for example La Puebla de Roda and Roda de Isábena. These are absolutely worth a visit if you decide to make a stroll around the camping site. You can reach La Puebla de Roda within a 10 minute walk. It’s a typical small Spanish village: narrow alleys surrounded by old houses of stone. There’s a pretty restaurant in La Puebla de Roda called “El Prau de Vidal” where you can sit outside and even just drink something.

Another village of the community which you should really see is Roda de Isábena. There you will find the San Vicente cathedral where there once was a bishop’s seat. With just about 40 inhabitants Roda is the smallest village with a cathedral in the whole of Spain. You can visit the cathedral while doing some sightseeing in the village. Since Roda is a bit more far away and also higher you can go there by car, but you can also walk there, it will take you about an hour and a half and you will walk among the river and over the Romanic bridge.

If you take the car to get to the village you will find a big parking where you can leave the car and continue by walking. The road now is really steep and you will pass a small balcony where you will have a great view over the Isábena valley. Then you will get to the village square which is surrounded by the cathedral. On the square is also Casa Tomás, a restaurant with really good Spanish dishes. I suggest to first at one of the tables outside with a cold drink. You can enjoy the charme of the village and the view of the church for a while, later after a walk around you can return to the restaurant and try the Spanish treats. After a small pause you can continue to explore the village, just like in the neighboring village La Puebla de Roda you will walk through narrow alleys and pass sand colored stone houses.

After a while you will reach the panorama point with some benches. Since the village is situated a bit higher you can enjoy a wonderful and vast view of the valley and the mountains. A meal in the restaurant Casa Tomás or in the restaurant in the former monastery with classic music and good food will be perfect to end the stroll through the village. You will keep the historical villages of the Isábena valley in good memory!
